A Little About Me
Still Learning. Still Becoming. Still looking toward the light.
A little about the person behind the words.
I’m Fran—educator, writer, mother, grandmother, lifelong learner, and believer in the quiet power of light.
I was born in England and found my way to California, carrying with me a love of words, wandering, the ocean, and the small moments that somehow become the ones we remember most.
For much of my life, I have been an educator. I’ve taught, led schools, supported teachers and children, and learned that leadership, like life, is rarely as tidy as we imagine it will be. The most important work happens between the plans: in conversations, relationships, mistakes, laughter, courage, and the decision to keep showing up.
Writing has always helped me make sense of those spaces.
Here, I write about leadership and learning, but also about motherhood, memory, loss, resilience, belonging, becoming, and beginning again. Sometime those thoughts arrive as essays. Sometimes as poetry. Sometimes as a question I’m still carrying.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers.
I’m much more interested in what happens when we slow down long enough to notice.
A lantern. A bicycle beside the ocean. A child’s unexpected wisdom. A memory that returns years later. A door closing. Another opening.
I believe two things can be true at once. That life can be difficult and beautiful. That we can grieve what was and remain curious about what comes next. That our light may dim without disappearing.
And that sometimes the bravest direction is simply onward.
This little corner of the world is where I’m gathering those thoughts—gently, imperfectly, and with hope.
Onward. Upward. Lightward.
The work that shaped me.
Education has been far more than my profession; it has been one of my greatest teachers. I have dedicated my career to serving children, supporting educators, and creating schools where every person feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow.
As a school leader, National Board Certified Teacher, mentor, and writer, my work has always been grounded in inclusion, relationships, and the belief that every challenge offers an opportunity to lead with courage and compassion.
Through it all, I have remained a teacher at heart.
I believe the best leadership begins with listening, grows through relationships, and keeps children at the center. I’m especially drawn to the spaces where possibility meets practice—where thoughtful questions, courageous conversations, and a willingness to see things differently can create meaningful change.
Through speaking, consulting, and writing, I hope to encourage educators and leaders to build cultures where people flourish and every voice matters. Whether I am working alongside school communities, mentoring future leaders, or writing my next book, my purpose remains the same: to lead with heart, serve with purpose, lift every voice, and leave every place a little brighter than I found it.
I’m still learning—and always will be.
